April 21, 1947 — June 18, 2018

Col. Kurt E. Muller, USA (ret.)

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

2 Timothy 4:7

Kurt Ewald Müller succumbed to his battle with cancer on June 18, 2018 at the age of 71.  Kurt is the son of the late Ewald Müller and the late Wilma Menzel Müller.  Kurt's professional life was defined by his call to service and to learning, promoting cross-cultural understanding and civil-military cooperation.  Kurt served in the US Army Reserve, Civil Affairs, for 37 years, with a focus on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response, Stabilization and Reconstruction.  After his military retirement in 2007, he joined the Department of State Civilian Response Corps.  His multi-faceted career spanned academic as well as operational spheres.  Kurt was a foreign language instructor and program coordinator at several higher education institutions in New York and New Jersey.  He promoted language study through his publications as well as his work within the CA community, the Modern Language Association,  and the National Council on Foreign Language and International Studies.  Kurt's academic achievements include a B.A. from City College of New York, a Ph.D. from Rutgers University, and a M.M.A.S. from USA Command and General Staff College.  He was also a graduate of the Army War College and a visiting senior fellow at the National Defense University.

Kurt was an avid traveler and skier and a man committed to life-long learning.  His vast range of interests included history, fine arts, music, food and wine. No one could spend more time exploring a museum!  Yet none of his passions equaled his devotion to his family, his pride in his children and grandchildren, and his unwavering faith.  Kurt is survived by his wife Liz; daughter Christa; son Evan; three grandsons Max, Ryan and Alexander; brother Fred; a nephew and three nieces.
