Clyde Edward Grimm Clyde Edward Grimm passed away on May 8, 2018 at the age of 95 after a long year of battling dementia. Clyde was born on September 17, 1922, in New Philadelphia, Ohio to Josephine and Clyde Grimm. True to Clyde’s work ethic, he spent his high school years working various jobs in New Philadelphia from picking beans, loading sand at a coal mine, and selling subscriptions to the magazine “Radio Guide”. After graduating from high school in 1941 he worked at the Erie Proving Ground where he inspected artillery after test firing. In October 1942 Clyde enlisted in the Army Air Corps and graduated from armament school which sent him to various bases as an aircraft armorer. Upon discharge from the Army Air Corp in 1946, Clyde moved to Washington DC to join his parents and, through the GI bill, attended the Catholic University School of Architecture earning his degree in 1950. Clyde’s greatest joy was seeing a building come to life from his drawings. As a founding partner of Grimm and Parker, many of his school, church, and office building designs can be seen throughout Maryland, Washington and Northern Virginia. Clyde was the past president of the Potomac Valley Chapter of the AIA and the Bladensburg Rotary Club. He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite. Clyde was a member of Riverdale Baptist Church and, more recently, the First Baptist Church of Crofton. Upon retirement at the age of 70, Clyde continued to share his talents by earning his real estate license. Clyde’s love of family was palpable. He imprinted upon them the qualities of integrity, gentleness, humor, commitment to Christ and unconditional love of family. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 69 years Betsey, his sons Richard (Linda) and David (Sally), grandchildren Daniel (Emily), Patrick, Matthew (Sammie Jo), Tara, Emily and 3 great grandchildren- Amelia, Gates and Henry. Family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Crofton, 1690 Crofton Pkwy., Crofton, MD on May 14, 2018 from 6 to 8pm, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 11am.
