Anna Korn Shea (“Connie”), a resident of Collington Retirement Center, Mitchellville, Maryland, died April 11, 2018. She was born in Camden, New Jersey, in 1922, the daughter of Carl Andreas Korn and Jennie Woodruff Korn. She graduated Woodbury High School in 1939, and received her Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary in 1943. After her marriage to Captain Howard W. Shea, in 1943, she worked with the early computers to analyze captured airplane fuel. Following World War II, she and her husband raised their four children in New Jersey, where Anna was an active volunteer at Christ Church Episcopal and the Woodbury Hospital. The family resided in Westport, Connecticut from 1962 to 2001, attending Christ and Holy Trinity Church. Anna, who loved entertaining friends and family, also welcomed, fed and engaged the scores of their children’s friends who trooped through that Westport home. An avid golfer, traveler, skier, gardener and sailor, Anna also worked in real estate and obtained her Master’s in Education from Western Connecticut State University. She joined her husband in overseas assignments for Mobil International in the Philippines, Australia, England and Indonesia. While living overseas, she was active in Rotary International, using her knowledge of culture and history as well as her gift for hospitality to promote cross-cultural understanding. Following their return to the United States, she and her husband continued golfing, traveling, sailing, and skiing, as well as numerous volunteer activities. She was widowed soon after their 2001 move to Knoxville, Tennessee. In 2005, she moved to the Collington Retirement Community in Mitchellville, Maryland. Widely read, and with a flair for organization, she became absorbed in friendships and activities at Collington, including mentoring students, assisting with marketing, organizing flower displays, and working at the community store, as well as continuing golf and world travel. She was an active congregant at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Upper Marlboro. She is survived by her sister, Sarah W. Korn of Cockeysville, Maryland, her four children, Sarah Shea Potts of California, Carl George Shea (Nancy) of Maryland, Courtney Shea (Durant Thompson) of Tennessee, and Mary Gretchen Shea of Connecticut, four grandchildren, Sean Potts of California, Katherine Potts Sholty (Robert) of California, Christine Thompson Osborne (Stephen) of Tennessee and Carolyn Thompson of Tennessee, and one great-grandchild, Shea Sholty.
