Arthur F. White

January 6, 1933 — March 8, 2018

Arthur Frederick WhiteJanuary 6, 1933 - March 8, 2018Arthur F. White, known to family members and lifelong friends as "Buggy", passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 8, after a brief illness.Born to parents Arthur Elijah and Grace White on January 6, 1933, Art was raised and educated in Monmouth County, New Jersey with his beloved younger brother Richard H. White. He attended Red Bank High School where he played football as quarterback of his team, basketball, excelled in academics, and represented his class as Valedictorian. Arthur continued to participate in his high school reunions as recently as 2017. Arthur enrolled in the New Jersey Institute of Technology, received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and subsequently became a commissioned Officer in the United States Air Force. During that time, he met "the love of his life", Jane A. Jepsen. They were married on February 25, 1956 and recently celebrated 62 years of love, laughter and devotion. The White family settled in Maryland in the early 1960's when Art joined NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt Md. He then entered the exciting world of the Space Program. His career accomplishments include important contributions to the Tyros and Nimbus Satellite Programs, and the Space Shuttle Program. After 42 years with NASA, he then enjoyed a well-deserved retirement. Arthur loved God, his country, and his family. He pondered life's great mysteries and was fascinated by history, philosophy, mathematics, theology, and current world events. He served in many volunteer positions that included being PTA President when his older children were in elementary school at St. Bernard's Catholic School, being a church lector, CYO basketball coach, and emcee of many St. Bernard's church events. In his later years, Arthur continued his passion for learning through the study of Spanish, American Sign Language, and the Bible. One of his great enjoyments was spending time with family and friends on the beaches of Delaware, and he was thrilled when he accomplished his dream of building a beach home for his family near Rehoboth Beach. Arthur also loved spending time on the golf course, sailboating and target shooting. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jane, his children: Kimberly Pacheco (Mark), Heidi White Goodson (Gary), Douglas White (Cheri), Andrea Brode, Claudia White-Walters (Jeff); grandchildren: Alex, Michael, Matthew, Megan (Alex), Heather (Jordan), Melanie, Benjamin, Jenna Jane, Meredith and Lauren; great-grandchildren: Dougie, Dean, Charlotte, Zoe Amelia, his younger brother Richard White (Prudy), nephew Michael White (Kelly) and great-nephew TJ. Arthur is predeceased by his granddaughter Hannah Lee White, whose side he never left, as she laid to rest. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. His children loved to call their Dad "Batman", as that was Arthurs favorite comic book character of all time. He was our Hero. He was our Batman. Godspeed Dad...we love you... In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation 230 E.
