Mrs. Janie Rebecca Norris, 87, was born Janie Rebecca Smith on July 6, 1930 in Columbia, SC to the late Amanda (Reed) Smith and Sam Smith. She was called to eternal rest on Sunday, March 4, 2018. At a very early age, her parents moved to Flushing Queens New York, where she attended N.Y state public schools. Shortly after her high school graduation, she met and married her late husband James (Jimmy) Norris, and was blessed with 50 years of marriage. Janie was employed by the U.S Department of Agriculture and retired in 1992 after 35 years of service. Family and friends were of utmost importance to Janie, and she especially loved her nieces and nephews, of whom she invested much love, time, and resources toward helping them to reach their full potentials in life. She was an excellent seamstress, but also enjoyed traveling in and outside the U.S. Those left to cherish Janie's memory and carry on her legacy of a kind and giving spirit, include a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She is predeceased by four brothers, Willie Lee Reed, Frank Smith, Sam Smith Jr, and Charles Smith.
