Willie Hynson Houchens Of Hyattsville, MD, passed away January 24, 2018, while surrounded by his family. Born in Washington, DC, September 19th, 1939 to the late George and Willie Houchens. He was the beloved and devoted father of Willie (Kathy) Houchens Jr., Paul Houchens (Deceased), Teri (John) Letzkus, Debra (Gerald) Warga, Christina Houchens, and Regina Houchens. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Gerald Warga II (Natalia), David Warga, John Letzkus, Brandi (Marcus) Voyles, Rachel Warga, Cheryl Warga, Wille Houchens III, Julie Houchens, Samantha Houchens. Great grandchildren; Ivan, Leif, Nicholas, and Isabella, Sister; Mary Smith, dear family friend; Norma Hayward, along with a host of other relatives, treasured friends, and neighbors. Willie was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years Landa Houchens and 7 siblings. Willie grew up the youngest of 9 siblings in Washington, DC, where he first worked as a Baker. He retired from Washington Metro Area Transit Authority with over 30 years of service. Most importantly, he was a loving, kind and compassionate Father, Grandfather, and Friend. He devoted his life to his Family, Always putting them first. He enjoyed cooking and was well known for his “secret recipe” delicious Hams he often made for Church and family gatherings. Willie was an excellent craftsman and avid Washington Nationals and Washington Redskins sports fan. He was spiritual and an active member of Grace Baptist Church in Bowie, MD where he attended services every Sunday. Willie was an excellent storyteller, had a great sense of humor, bringing a smile to every room he entered. Viewing will be held at Beall Funeral Home, Bowie, MD, Friday, February 2, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 11:00 AM at Grace Baptist Church in Bowie. Interment to follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, MD. In laughter and sorrow, sunshine and rain, we carry your memory and spirit in our hearts, until we meet again.
