Obituary Larry Ernest Lockley, Sr. was born on January 23, 1937 to Cyrus Ernest and Cora Griffin Lockley in Gloucester County, Virginia. He was the 4th of 8 children and the oldest son. He departed his earthly life on Sunday, January 7, 2018. He grew up in the Woods Crossroads area and was baptized and joined the Morning Glory Baptist Church. Following high school, Larry joined the United States Navy where he served for over 20 years. During his Navy career, he traveled all over the world, including Viet Nam and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Following his retirement from the Navy, Larry joined Washington Metro Area Transit Authority as a bus operator and after many years as bus operator became a Station Attendant until his 2nd retirement. Larry was popular and had many friends and was always on the go. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and “tinkering” and was a member of the Vicksville Hunting Club. The family was often treated to his culinary creations (often disguised as fried chicken or roast beef) after many of his hunting expeditions. A great source of pride was the stuffed trophy deer heads that graced the rec room and which were a source of terror and/or fascination for his young grandchildren. Larry was also an excellent Pinochle player. He won several trophies, which he displayed proudly in his home. During his retirement years, Larry was slowed down by the effects of a stroke. He was blessed to receive care from a faithful and devoted caregiver Florence Agyarey for over 10 years until his passing. Larry was predeceased by his parents, sisters Lillian Carlton, Elsie Burse and Mary Emma Lockley; two former wives, Delores Wood Lockley and Lula Burke Lockley, and two grandchildren, Mia Lockley and Trenton Austin. He leaves to cherish his memories his children: Sabrina Hill, Larry E. Lockley, Jr., Danielle Moore (Rodney), Devonne Craig Lockley (Cynthia), Lavetta Lockley, Chevelle Lockley, Brian Lockley, Stallone Lockley (Chailot) and Jacqueline Dorsey (John); siblings Ernestine Roberson, Marjorie Taliaferro, Clarence Lockley and Ellen Williams; and former wife, Brenda Lockley. In addition he leaves 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
