Jane S. Callahan

Jane Ellen Skelly Callahan of Crofton, MD died peacefully at home on December 29, 2017. She was born on April 1, 1921 in Ralston, PA to the late Thomas F. and Alma Breen Skelly. She graduated from Ralston High School and then received a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Pennsylvania State University where she was a member of Theta Phi Alpha women's fraternity. She later served on the Penn State Alumni Council. She was a retired teacher. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Catholic Church of Crofton. Jane was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association and the American Association of University Women (AAUW). She was a member of the Southern Maryland Antique Arts Association and of the former Crofton Area Retired Persons (CARP). She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert J. Callahan, who died in 1998, and by a sister, Ann M. Skelly and a daughter-in-law, Debra J. Callahan. She is survived by four sons, Thomas R. Callahan (MaryKay) of Crofton, Maryland, James M. Callahan of Swan Point, Maryland, Patrick J. Callahan (Stacy) of Davidsonville, Maryland and Michael R. Callahan (Laurie) of Crofton, Maryland, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Crain Hwy. (Rt. 3 South), Bowie, MD, on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. Interment private. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
