Jacklyn Marie Amos

August 24, 1936 — December 26, 2017

Jacklyn Marie “Jackie” Amos, 81, of Bowie, went to Heaven, Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at home, with her husband and daughters by her side, after a brave battle with cancer. Born in Washington, DC she was the daughter of the late Alice M. Mayo (Honeycutt) and late Kenneth W. Mayo.  After leaving Roosevelt High School prior to graduation, in 1954 she married the love of her life, William D. “Bill” Amos.  The family moved to Bowie in 1962, where they raised their 5 daughters.  Jackie loved learning and working, and gained much knowledge at the “school of hard knocks”.  When the youngest of her daughters was in elementary school, Jackie began working full time for HG Smithy Company where she learned, and became proficient at, bookkeeping.  An organizer by nature, Jackie was instrumental in running the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bowie Boys and Girls Club, while her husband coached football.  As a founding member of the Belair Bath and Tennis Club, Jackie held a number of positions on the Board of Directors, and worked closely with other parents to manage the BB&T Swim Team.  After helping to care for her grandchildren, Jackie became an administrative assistant, ultimately finding a home at Q Williams Real Estate Associates.  Jackie worked full-time until the time of her illness. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of nearly 64 years; her children, Carolyn “Cade” Amos Wright, Marlene (Tim) Schreiner, Brenda (Dave) Obern, Deanna Amos (Gunther Brand), and Kelly (Tom) Coloe; her grandchildren, William (Denise) Thompson, Brian Thompson, Beau Thompson, Sean (Sarah) Thompson, Ashleigh Wright, Jimmy Hill, Ginger (Chris) Walcutt, Megan (Josh) Offsie, and Brandon (Mehie) Coloe; as well as, 12 great-grandchildren (and one on the way). The family will be celebrating Jackie’s life, on Friday January 5th, 2018, between the hours of 1 and 5pm, at their home in Bowie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy, Pasadena, MD 21122.
