On Wednesday, December 6, 2017, after a brief illness, beloved husband of Roberta Sweeney for 44 years, devoted father of Andree (Peter) Hudson and Dawn (Mark) Perry, loving grandfather of Arabella Hudson, Adelina Hudson and Justina (Dallas) Compton and two great grandchildren, Dallas Compton, Jr. and Alexis Compton. He is survived by his brother, William H. Sweeney, Jr. (Barbara) and two nephews, William H. Sweeney III (Jennifer) and Darren Sweeney (Tara), five grand nephews and one grand niece. Robert who was born in Washington, D.C. moved to Maryland; where he attended and graduated from DuVal High School in 1964, being a member of the first graduating class to attend that school the entire four years. In 1978, he went to work for Singleton Electric Company, as head of purchasing; where he has expressed his love and loyalty for the past 40 years. Robert led an active and adventurous life. He loved to travel and explore new places. He enjoyed golf, downhill skiing, scuba diving and deep sea fishing. He loved musical plays and old movies and had a wonderful eclectic taste in music. He also took up cycling and for his 65th birthday, participated in and completed the Seagull Century bike race on Maryland's Eastern Shore. He was a man of many tastes and many talents, always in search of new challenges. His most important quality was his ability to love and care for his family, loved ones and the multitude of friends he made during his journey. Family will receive friends Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Beall Funeral Home (Rt. 3 South), Bowie, MD. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 10am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD. Interment private.
