?Alex (Yaw) Nsiah-Kumi, Sr. May 23, 1949 - December 2, 2017 Alex Nsiah-Kumi, Sr. was born on. May 23, 1949 in Sunyani, in the Brong Ahafo Region in Ghana, West Africa to Obaa Yaa Amponsaa (also known as Yaa Num) and John Sam Kumi. He came to faith in Christ as a young man. He was very active in Scripture Union, a Christian campus fellowship. For several years, he was an itinerant preacher, with a special focus on campus ministry. In 1972, he married Pearl Sackar, a nurse at the Komfo Anokye Hospital in Kumasi, who was also passionate about her faith. He came to the United States in 1973 as a student of the Washington Bible College in Lanham, Maryland. For a time, he served as an assistant pastor of Layhill Free Methodist Church, in Silver Spring Maryland. Alex and Pearl raised three children, Phyllis (44), Jennifer (41), and Alex Jr. (39). In addition to his work in ministry, Alex was an entrepreneur and visionary. Throughout his life he worked on numerous ventures through his business, KIC Enterprises. He moved his family to Bowie, Maryland in 1981 and lived in that city for the remainder of his life. Faith remained the center of his life, and he was actively involved in church until his health prevented him from doing so. Throughout his life, he absolutely believed that God’s love and faithfulness are evident at all times. He is preceded in death by his parents Obaa Yaa Amponsaa (also known as Yaa Num) and John Sam Kumi. He is also preceded by his siblings: Kofi Korren; Martin Kwaku Nimoh; Yaw Owusu Kumi; Kwaku Oduru; Kwaku Kumi; and Margaret Opoku. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Nsiah-Kumi; his daughter, Phyllis Akua Amponsaa Nsiah-Kumi, MD; his son, Alex Kwaku Nsiah-Kumi, Jr.; his daughter, Jennifer Akua Korantemaa Kumi Burkett, EdM, son-in-law, Gregory Scott Burkett; and grandchildren Kaylee Esinam (11); Aiden Addae (9); Blaine Nyamekye (8); Grace Elonam (4). He is also survived by his siblings: Nana Amponsah II (Domasua Hene) - Ghana; Rev. Baa Bahino - Ghana; George Osei Agyemang – Houston, Texas; Karikari Agyemang – Houston, Texas; Kofi Owusu Kumi, MD – Natchez, Mississippi; Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo; Paulus Owusu Kumi; Kwabena Anane Kumi; Charles Gyan Kumi; Mary Korantemaa; Georgina Pomaa; Elizabeth Kumi; Franscisca Yeboaa; Kwasi Gyau; Stephen Asare Kumi; Adwoa Korantemaa; Yaa Owusuaa - all in Ghana; and Atta Abena Kumi - Italy. His earthly journey is over. He is now peacefully resting in the presence of God.
