Daryl Leigh Brown passed away from Leiomyosarcoma cancer on Sunday, December 3, 2017. She is survived by her loving husband Kenneth Lee Brown, her children Amy Elizabeth Jubb (Jason) and Kenneth Foster Brown (Meghan), and four grandchildren Drew Brown, Garrett Brown, Ryan Jubb and Griffin Brown as well as her stepmother Sandra Andrews. Daryl Brown was born in Ross, California on December 21, 1951. Daryl lived a very active life, always going to her children and grandchildren’s events and activities, enjoying travelling with her husband, friends, and family, and giving sage advice about how “you are your best advocate.” Daryl was always very involved in community activities. She was a Brownie leader, former secretary of the Crofton Athletic Counsel, secretary of Hallmark Woods Homeowners Association, and a volunteer with The American Cancer Society. For the past six years, she was very active in the Leiomyosarcoma Direct Research Foundation Cancer support group (LMSDR). Within the support group, she was a moderator of the Facebook group, an emcee at conferences, an advocate who spoke to politicians, and was always willing to share words of wisdom to fellow cancer survivors and thrivers about how best to live with cancer. She was also a founding member of The Ladybugs, a regional LMS support group. Daryl was nicknamed the Unsinkable Daryl Brown, because throughout her 25 years of being a cancer warrior (six years with Leiomyosarcoma, 15 years with endometrial cancer, 16 years with melanoma, and 25 years with breast cancer), nothing got her down and nothing was able to stop her. She defied all odds. To quote Daryl as she was imparting guidance to the LMS community about advocating for new medical trials and treatments: “We are the vanguards, willing, with Hope in our hearts, to step into vast unknown territory with the strongest hopes that this will be the trial that will make a difference in our survival. Don’t give up! Let’s go arm in arm together, with Hope in our hearts that we will enjoy another glorious new spring — a renewal of life!” The family will receive friends on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Crain Hwy (Rt. 3 South), Bowie, MD 20715. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on December 14, 2017 at 10am at The Community United Methodist Church, 1690 Riedel Rd., Crofton, MD 21114 with a reception immediately following. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Leiomyosarcoma Direct Research Foundation (lmsdr.org) in memory of The Unsinkable Daryl Brown.
