Joseph Michael Miller

November 24, 1952 — November 12, 2017

On Sunday November 12, 2017 Joseph Michael Miller passed away at the age of 64, while traveling with wife, Gretchen H. Miller, to watch fireworks at the National Harbor.  He was born to the late Ruth E. (née Myers) Miller and the late Herbert W. Miller in Adams County, Pennsylvania on November 24, 1952.  He was the youngest of their three children, survived by his oldest sister Clara M. Burner, of Richmond, VA.  He was the younger brother of the late Catherine M. Miller of Pittsburgh, PA. Joe graduated from Biglerville High School in 1970.  He then attended the Pennsylvania State University, where he met Gretchen, and when he lost his father at age seventeen.  He graduated from Penn State with a degree in quantitative business analysis in 1974, and married Gretchen later that same year on the day before his twenty-second birthday.  Together, he and Gretchen have two sons, Erik William Miller and Karl Joseph Miller, and a son-in-law, Christopher D. Cheney.  As a devoted husband of nearly 44 years of marriage, he continually and lovingly supported his wife throughout her rheumatoid arthritis and multiple joint-replacement surgeries.  As the father of his sons, he lovingly supported them throughout his life.  Joe worked in federal service as a statistician for the agricultural census in the Census Bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and later for the National Agricultural Statistical Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  He retired from a career of over 30 years in 2007.  Joe had a strong passion for personal finance, investing, and politics.  Viewing service will be held at Beall Funeral Home on Sunday November 19, 2017  from 1:00 - 4:00pm.  Family will make brief remarks at 3:30pm.  He will be sorely missed. Donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation
