Alberta M. Schellhammer

Alberta "Bert" Schellhammer, a longtime Bowie resident, died June 20, 2017 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph "Rudy" Schellhammer. She is survived by her two children, Mark Schellhammer, of Reston, Virginia, and Terry O'Neal of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and two grandchildren Jacob and Katelyn. Bert and her family moved to Bowie in 1963, and served her community for 25 years as the "Welcome Wagon" hostess, greeting new Bowie residents in their homes with her gift-laden basket, providing information about Bowie and the surrounding area. Bert was an active member of the Catholic Church until poor health prevented regular church attendance. Bert will be laid to rest beside her husband, Rudy, in Arlington National Cemetery, with a graveside service to be held sometime in the future.
