On Thursday, May 18, 2017, Eden Jeremy "Charlie" Jacobs passed away peacefully at his residence in Church Hill, MD with his beloved wife Jane Margaret “Jinx” Jacobs by his side. He was 77 years young. Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs were to celebrate their 57th wedding anniversary on June 4th of this year. Eden was born on October 15, 1939 in Detroit, MI and adopted by Herman and Rachel (Friedman) Jacobs. In 1953 the Jacobs family moved to Ann Arbor, MI. He was proud of the Jewish faith in which he was raised. Charlie graduated from University High School in the class of 1957. He attended Central Michigan University where he met his "Irish Rose" Jane Margaret “Jinx” Quilter. They were married on June 4, 1960 and moved to Washington, DC where Charlie trained and entered the restaurant business. After several years managing cafeterias in DC, he joined Marriott Corporation in the School and College Division. He managed food service facilities at the United States Naval Academy, American University, Gallaudet University, National Cathedral School, Smithsonian, and House of Representatives. In 1963, Jinx and Charlie bought a Levitt home in Bowie and were community members for 50 years. He was very active with his children and their sports including Bowie Boys and Girls Club; Bowie Soccer Association; and Interfaith leagues. Charlie volunteered as a coach and organizer in the community for baseball, basketball, soccer and the C.Y.O. teams. He was also involved in the St. Pius X School where all 7 of his children attended and at one time served on the Board of Education. He was supportive of the Catholic faith practiced by his wife and children. Charlie enjoyed all of his experiences and friendships made while participating in adult intramural leagues around Bowie. He was especially fond of his tennis friendships from Belair Bath & Tennis Club. Charlie thoroughly enjoyed having kids around the house and the mayhem that usually accompanied the crowd. His hobbies included tending to his landscaping; following the athletics of his children and grandchildren; planning trips and traveling the globe; participating in sports; and spending time with friends and family. He rarely missed a game or gathering of friends. In 2003 Charlie started to have vision difficulties which required him to retire from the workforce. He then became involved with Bowie Recreation Council and Bowie Interfaith Recreation Council. Charlie was an advocate for advancing athletic opportunities and resources around the community. He also represented these organizations to the Bowie Chamber of Commerce. In 2013, Charlie and Jinx relocated to Church Hill, MD to enjoy the beauty and quiet lifestyle of the eastern shore. Charlie was a loving father to Julia Ann (Allen) Jacobs-Kaczmarek, Margaret Suzanne “Peggy” (Louis) D’Orsaneo, Thomas Michael (Kristin) Jacobs, Mary Kathleen (James) D’Orsaneo, Elizabeth Rachel “Betsy” (Jarrod) Otta, Colleen Shawn “Kelly” Jacobs, and Joseph Jeremy Jacobs. He was a dear grandfather to Jacquelyn, Dominique “Nikki” (Dimitri Grant), Stephanie (Tyler Tippett), Alexandra “Lexie”, Anthony, Michael, Jacob, Emily, Madelynne, Justin, Connor and Mason. He was excited for the birth of his first great grandchild by Nikki and Dimitri Grant due in November 2017. The family greatly appreciates the community support, warm condolences, and shared grief expressed during this difficult time. Charlie had a special place in his heart for the people and city of Bowie. His legacy will be the successful growth of athletic organizations around the city of Bowie for years to come. The family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 10:30am to 12:30pm.
