Rebecca (York) Blackburn, longtime resident of Bowie MD, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017, after a series of long illnesses. Born March 13, 1940, in Washington, D.C., Becky married Charles M. Blackburn, Jr. on August 30, 1958. She was a stay-at-home mother, raising two children: Keith Blackburn and Dana (Blackburn) Quinn. In her spare time, she volunteered for the American Red Cross and several other charitable organizations. Becky was a founding member of the Kenilworth Women’s Club of Bowie, in which she remained active. In recent years, she enjoyed gardening, socializing with friends, reading, going on daytrips and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Becky was predeceased by her parents, India Mae (Clark) and Brower Vance York, and a sister, Diana York. In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her siblings Cynthia Barnett, Sylvia York and Brower Vance York, Jr., six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 2-3 p.m. at the Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD; followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. Interment will be private.
