Georgine Lou (nee Fetzer) Bauchspies, 82, of Bowie, Maryland, passed away quietly surrounded by her family on April 26, 2017, at Crofton Care and Rehabilitation Center in Crofton, Maryland after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Georgine was born on October 28, 1934, in Flushing, New York, the second daughter of Louis and Vi Fetzer. The family moved to Manhasset, New York when Georgine was three years old. She grew up there and graduated from Manhasset High School, after which she attended Berkeley Secretarial School in NYC. She then worked as a legal secretary for the Dowsey and Theodore Barber Law firms in Manhasset. Georgine met James S. Bauchspies, LTC, USA (Ret) at West Point and upon his gradation in 1956 they were married. After several military moves, they bought their first home in Bowie, Maryland in 1964, where they have lived for the past 53 years. Georgine loved people, music, antiques, and flowers. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for years and was a founding member of FISH of Greater Bowie where she served as its president for 29 years. Georgine loved FISH and its many volunteers, and they loved her back. Together they were able to provide many needed services to the people of Bowie, as many awards to FISH during Georgine’s tenure can attest. She owned her own antique store called “Georgine’s Attic” for several years, was the historian and secretary for Cub Scout Pack 1577, performed with the Bowie Community Theater in several productions, and was an avid gardener and homemaker. In addition to her husband of 61 years and her son Todd Bauchspies (Cindy), Georgine is survived by her sister Barbara Jean Hambley of New London, NH, her sisters in-law Kathryne Miller of Effort, PA, Karin Bauchspies of Alpharetta, GA, and Barbara Bauchspies of Newport, RI, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Georgine was predeceased by five brothers in-law, Jackson Wells Hambley, Rollin Leroy Bauchspies, Jr, CAPT USN (Ret), Frank Thomas Bauchspies, Robert Williams Bauchspies, Col, USA (Ret), Richard Elmer Bauchspies, Col, USA (Ret), and Lewis Miller, LTC, USA (Ret). There will be a Celebration of Life service in Georgine’s memory on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11 am at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 13106 Annapolis Rd, Bowie, MD, with a lunch reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made online to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
