James J. Pitcher

August 19, 1920 — April 10, 2017

Mr. Pitcher attended the New York Technical School of Aviation studying to be a Master Mechanic. He was in the Naval Reserve at Floyd Bennet Field in Brooklyn when World War II started so he went on active duty in the Navy training at Norman, OK and San Diego CA before being sent to Hawaii for the duration of the war. He continued that profession for the Department of Defense at Bolling Air Force Base and Andrews Air Force Base until his retirement. Mr. Pitcher owned an Aronca Chief and flew out of College Park Airport and was a life-long member of AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assc.) With his brother AI he cruised the Chesapeake on their power boat the "Gunga Din" as members of the Potomac River Power Squadron. He was also a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus in Brooklyn, NY, Riverdale, MD and here in Bowie.  Mr. Pitcher was beloved "Uncle Jim" to many members of the Brady, Kircher, Peyser, and Pitcher families. His death will be mourned as well by his wife Ann and her children James Garman,Jack Garman Ann Rittenberg, Patty Curtin, Christopher Garman, and Eileen Theis and her grandchildren Brooke Garman, David Garman, Megan Curtin, Polly Rittenberg, Grace Rittenberg, Julia Rittenberg, Daniel Theis, and Virginia Theis.  In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to: Hospice of the ChesapeakeJohn & Cathy Belcher Campus90 Ritchie HighwayPasadena, MD 21122
