Carol Randall, 83, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 surrounded by her family. A native of Waukegan, Illinois, she was born on February 4th, 1934 to William Frank Rule and Lela Jones Rule. In 1964, she, her husband George (Sonny) and their four children moved to a new house on Alcona Street in Lanham, Maryland where they resided for forty years. They also enjoyed their beach house near Rehoboth, Delaware where they made, and shared, many special times. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, George Russell Randall and her son George Allen (Lettie) Randall. She is survived by her sister Gloria Danahay, daughters Lynne (Mike) Heffner, Sharon Randall, and Dawn (Tommy) Donohue; grandchildren Russell Randall, Brandie (Matt) Seaman, Rachel (Ian) Coker, Larry Cox, Steven Cox, Daniel Donohue, and Katelyn Donohue; and great-grandchildren Russell , Kevin, Jordan, Kyla, Alyssa, Kirsten, Helena, Emerson, Zander, Evan, Jade, Olivia, Steven Jr., and, Liliana. As an accountant at John Hancock, her fingers moved a mile a minute as she worked on their books. That occupation gave way to working the family business known as the Seabrook Nursery where she provided loving, quality daycare for hundreds of area children. After years of service at the nursery, a brother-in law encouraged her to explore the exciting world of mobile vending around the Washington D.C. area. Carol started this career working with Star Vending where she sold food and souvenirs near the museums. Then, in the mid 70's, she established her own vending company with Sonny and C&G Vending (Carol and George of course!) was born. They provided the teeming masses with all the foot long hot dogs, pizza, quarter pounder hot dogs (with cheese inside), and Mr. Pibb they could handle. After years of service, the vending business’s day-to-day operations was passed down to her children while she took on the role as private caregiver for a family with three boys. Carol was “Pack Leader” to a host of her furry, four-legged friends whom she loved dearly. She dubbed them Coco, Lance, and, of course, Angel. Her love for them was returned by many times over. Carol also ran the neighbor swimming pool in her backyard. On those hot summer days, all of the neighborhood kids longed for a dip in that pool. Come the Christmas season, Carol and Sonny set up a spectacular holiday lawn/house displays. People came by the carloads to see and take pictures of them. Rumor had it that the light from the displays was easily visible to the space station astronauts. To her, the most precious jewels she could ever have around her neck were the arms of her husband, four children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her daycare children. Her passion and love for children spanned decades, generations, and family ties. Her work as a daycare provider touched and enriched many lives. Her engaging and affectionate nature elevated her to “Granny” status to all her daycare charges. Time spent with family was always time well spent. She loved boating with Sonny and the family, fishing the Rehoboth bay and tributaries, crabbing off the piers and cooking up the harvest in the summer evenings. With a drink in her hand and a crab line in the other, she was sure to having a good time. She was a board game wizard, an accomplished master of the Poodle in Monopoly, always “laying out” first in Rummikub, a HedBanz guru, triumphant in Phase 10 card game, and always in her glory running the deck in Tripoley to take a kitty. The amount of smiles and laughs will forever live on within those that remain to play the games without her across from them. She delved into modern electronics with her and Solitaire games during her I-pad time where she found much challenge and happiness. Offshore “Casino Cruises” brought her more pleasure and excitement as she pulled slot machine handles and raked in her winnings. Carol looked forward to the yearly Triple Crown horse races and organized family pools to wager small on the individual races. Carol loved to go to the horse or dog tracks and soak up the excitement. She was a very consistent winner. Heaven has certainly gained another angel. The Family will receive friends on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 2 to 4p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with service Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy (Rte.3 South), Bowie, MD. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, MD. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, individuals would take some time and have a visit with someone in the community who may be lonely or housebound and give them the gift of your company. Charitable donations and random acts of kindness are also welcome tributes to Carol and her life.
