David Lewis Unnewehr

DAVID LEWIS UNNEWEHR 1951 - 2017 David L. Unnewehr passed away in Bowie, MD on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. He was born March 20, 1951 in Valparaiso, IN. Graduating from the University of Michigan in 1973 with a B.A. in History, Dave received his Masters in Urban Planning-Economics from Michigan State University in 1977 and worked as a Senior Planner for DuPage County, IL Regional Planning Department for several years before becoming an analyst specializing in disaster and risk management for organizations in the insurance industry. Dave spent a lot of time playing music while working to cultivate a love for music in his friends and family. He loved old dogs, beer, badminton, basketball, hiking and skiing. With childlike wonder and enthusiasm for the natural world, he loved a good blizzard, summer storm or hurricane and would oftentimes go out of his way to immerse himself in extreme weather events. He was a sucker for scenic vistas, sunsets, canyons - wide open ranges and would routinely “take the long way” in the car with his wife and family asking, “are we there yet?” Most of the time they’d thank him later for showing them something beautiful along the way.
