William Albert Moses, Ph.D.

William “Bill” Albert Moses, Ph.D., 71, of Crofton, Maryland, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, February 10, 2017 at George Washington University Hospital. A lifelong educator, Bill retired after 47 years of teaching and administrating at the university level. He taught at Kent State University, Western Connecticut State University, Case Western Reserve and Gallaudet University. At Gallaudet he served as a professor of theatre and costume design, Chair of the Theatre Arts Department, Chair of the Art Department, and Dean of the School of Communication. He was a playwright, librettist and lyricist for plays and operas. His works were performed at The Kennedy Center, The American College Theater Festival, GALA Hispanic Theatre, Deaf West Theatre, and the Prague Quadrennial. Bill was also an avid artist working in silk and watercolor painting as well as fabric sculpture and quilting and his art was presented in numerous local galleries. Bill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gail Anne Clougherty Moses, son Christopher Moses and daughter in-law Christel Murdock of West Orange, NJ, daughter Abigail Moses and son in-law Guy Henggeler, of Bowie, MD, and son Peter Moses and fiancé Katrin Hier, of Astoria, NY, grandsons Riley Moses and Leo, Calvin and Miles Henggeler, brother Fred Moses and his wife Marcia Moses, sister Christa Rich and her husband Joseph Rich and aunt Olga Moses, all of Canton, Ohio, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick Thomas Moses and Edna Mae Moses.Friends may call from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy, Bowie, MD. Funeral services for Bill will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 1800 Seton Dr, Crofton, MD on Thursday February 16, 2017 at 11 am with a luncheon to follow. Bill will be laid to rest at his alma mater St. Vincent College at a later date.
