Patrick Michael Murphy

Patrick Michael Murphy, age 78, passed away on February 9, 2017 at Crofton Care and Rehab with family by his side.  Patrick is survived by his three children and eleven grandchildren; daughter Laurel Gordon of Crofton, her husband Phil, their children Amy, her fiance Matt, P.J., his wife Maggie, Andrew, Jack; Patrick’s son Edward Murphy of Sun Prairie, WI, his wife Holly, their children Teagan, Kylie, Nolan, Maggie; and Patrick’s daughter Maureen Brinkman of Rock Hill, SC and children Erik, Gillian, and Logan.  Patrick is also survived by his first wife, Ann Densler of Tucson, AZ, as well as his siblings, Theresa Rodriquez and family of Dundalk, MD, Robert and Bett Murphy and family of Rosedale, MD, Ann James and family of Essex, MD, and Terrence and Debbie Murphy and family of Dundalk, MD.  Patrick was preceded in death by his second wife, Michaela (Duran) Murphy, and his parents, Theresa (Shipe) Murphy and Robert C. Murphy. Patrick was born in Indiana, PA on April 25, 1938.  He was the oldest of five children and had fond memories of growing up on Manchester Avenue in Dundalk, MD.  Patrick attended St. Rita’s grade school and graduated from Dundalk High School in 1957, finding immediate employment with Western Electric.  Instead, Patrick enlisted in the Marines and served his country from 1958 to 1961.  After being awarded the Good Conduct Medal and discharged honorably, he married in 1963 and settled in Dundalk.  In the early ‘70s, Patrick moved his family to Finksburg, MD, which made for a longer commute to Broening Highway in Dundalk.  Western Electric closed, and Patrick’s job was transferred to Lucent Technologies in Allentown, PA.  It was at the Music Festival in Bethlehem, PA where he met and married his second wife, Michaela Duran of Bethlehem, PA. Patrick is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and was an active member of his parish community including Knights of Columbus, Good Samaritans, Lions Club, as well as a generous donor.  Patrick loved rooting for his hometown teams, the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Colts/Ravens.   His favorite holiday was St. Patrick’s Day, and being a proud Irishman as well as loyal countryman, all you had to say was Éirinn go Brách or Semper Fi and he would smile ear to ear. A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Chapel, 16501 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD at 1:00 p.m.  Interment will be at Holy Savior Cemetery in Bethlehem, PA on Thursday, February 16, 2017.The family would like to thank all of their relatives and friends for their thoughts and prayers.
