William O. Newman

William O. Newman, age 79, beloved husband of Mary Winter Newman, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2017 at St. Mary’s Rehab Center in Leonardtown, MD, while surrounded by his family. Born in Washington, DC on October 19, 1937, he was the son of the late Carroll and Lena Newman. Bill was a long time resident of District Heights, MD before retiring to Upper Marlboro, MD and eventually Hollywood, MD. He worked as a bookbinder for Wm Norwitz Bookbindery for 40 years until retirement. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who was most happy when with his family. He enjoyed crabbing, fishing and a good game of cards with family and friends. In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by his devoted children, William Newman (Marianne) of Denton, MD, Linda Russo (Larry) of North Beach, MD, and Janet Dusseau (David) of Waldorf MD; as well as cherished grandchildren, Richard Newman, Ashley Kerns (Noah), Matthew Kerns (Krystal), Jason Kerns (Breanna), Ryan Dusseau, and Stephen Dusseau. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Chance Newman, Nikolai Newman, Piper Kerns, and Michael Winters. A 5th great-grandchild (Parker) is expected to arrive in July. Additionally, he is survived by sisters, Helen and Carolyn; brothers, Eugene and James, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a beloved granddaughter, Laurie Newman; brothers, Carroll Jr, George, Robert, Lee; and sister, Mary Jane. A visitation will be held will on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11:00 with a funeral mass to immediately follow at 12:00 at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church at 1940 Mitchellville Road, Bowie, MD. Interment to follow at Lakemont Cemetery in Davidsonville, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
