Robert Louis Ford

Robert Louis Ford is the son of the late Charles Benjamin and Myrtle Ford. Robert departed this life on Thursday, January 26, 2017. He was born on September 24, 1935 in Washington, D.C. He attended both District of Columbia and Prince George’s County Public School Systems. In 1953, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he earned the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt). During his service, he received several medals including the prestigious Purple Heart for his valor and courage during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After leaving the armed forces, Robert became a member of the Metropolitan Police Department for several years. Later, he became a supervisor of the bus training division for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) where he worked thirty-one years and retired. During his tenure at Metro he received many awards and recognitions for his exemplary service. He met and married his soulmate, Trina Jackson Ford. Left to cherish his memories are his children Leah Ford Pitt (Robert), Senetra Butler (Ron), Sean Ford (Shannon), Jennifer Madarang (Patrick), Glenn Foster III, Katrina Woody, Jason Ford Sr. (Claudia), Kelly Bankard (Paul), and Michael Ford. He is predeceased by his brothers: Oliver Ford, Charles Ford, James Ford, Curtis Ford, and his sister Marie Ford. He is survived by his brothers Donald Ford, Kenneth Ford (Gloria), Anthony Ford, and his sister Conlon Harvell, and a brother-in-law Derrick Jackson. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. After retirement, Robert devoted his life to his family. He loved spending time at the beach with them, and this became a family tradition. He is noted for his great sense of humor, watching his favorite game shows like the “Family Feud,” and his loyalty as a fan of the Washington Redskins football team. In his journey through life, Robert touched the lives of so many people. For those individuals who had the privilege to know him they will remember his wonderful smile, hardy laughter and his big heart.Semper Fidelis!
