Joan M. D'Orsaneo

April 25, 1937 — November 7, 2016

Known as Joan, Joan Lady, Mom, Grandma, and Gma, Joan D'Orsaneo was a fixture in the Bowie community for more than 50 years.  Anyone who knew Joan, also knew she never stopped, rarely stood still, and always had more than one thing going on at the same time.  The calendar beside her favorite chair was always full.  Her quick wit and rapid retorts were a constant source of amusement for her family earning her the nickname "Sassy Grandma."She was her family's champion and #1 fan, rarely missing an event.  From watching her husband and his team playing Interfaith softball beginning in 1964, to her four children competing in their chosen sports, and finally to her eight grandchildren in all of their activities, it is safe to say Joan spent close to 50 years cheering us all on.  And, every so often, she would "cheer" the referees.A native of the Philadelphia area, Joan graduated from the University of Delaware as a dietitian.  She worked in hospital dietary departments before moving to Maryland to raise her family, in the same home for 52 years.  She enjoyed bowling, playing tennis, and bridge.  During football season, she'd root for the Eagles from another room, too nervous to watch, and in the Spring, it was her beloved Dukies, and of course March Madness.Joan was a loving wife to Lou, a wonderful mother to Lou, Linda, Jim, and Lisa, mother-in-law to Peg, Mary and Larry, and an amazing grandmother to Jackie, Nikki, Nicholas, Gina, Lexie, Anthony, Alaina, and Emily. Her pain was great, but her suffering short, as our gracious and merciful God called her home.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maryland Right to Life Inc.at: mdrtl.org?
