Roosevelt was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 27, 1948 to Roosevelt Naylor (deceased) and Fredonia Doyle (deceased). At a young age he moved to Earl, Arkansas where he was raised by his beloved grandmother Elizabeth Doyle. In his early teens, Roosevelt moved to Queens, New York and lived there throughout most of his adult life. Roosevelt worked as a New York City police officer and then as an installation and repair technician for the New York Telephone Company. After retiring, Roosevelt turned to his passion and began training boxers full-time at world famous Gleason's gym in Brooklyn, NY. He took a special interest in those he trained and developed several close friendships with many of them. After leaving New York, Roosevelt moved to Mt. Pocono, PA, then to New Carrollton, MD.Roosevelt leaves behind his loving wife, Elma; three children Rickey, Taharka (Ingrid), and Nefertari (James); two sisters, Gloria and Bernice; one brother Robert; several grand and great-grand children, extended family, and friends.His family will receive visitors at the Beall Funeral Home on Sunday, September 11th 1-3PM (visitation) and Monday, September 12th 11AM (service).
