Edward Dawson Coleman

May 21, 1934 — September 6, 2016

Buz was born in Washington D.C. to Florence and Edward Coleman.  His mother was from Ashland, PA and his father from Illinois.  Buz grew up in a great neighborhood with plenty of guys who loved to play sports from morning to dusk.  Buz had a paper route and cut grass for neighbors.  His father died when Buz was 8 so he had to help out with his own expenses including tuition at Gonzaga College High School.  During his college days at Georgetown University, he had various jobs including the night shift loading and unloading Greyhound buses and in an ice cream parlor.  Buz received his JD from Georgetown Law School.  He served in the army in Okinawa and was admitted to the International Bar Association of The Ryukyu Islands. He often mentioned he never got a call to go back to Okinawa to represent anyone.  Buz worked for the IRS for over 20 years.  When he retired in 1989, he joined the law firm of Webster Chamberlain & Bean where he worked for 13 years.  He was chair of the Washington Non-Profit Legal and Tax Conference  for many years.  Buz was a member of the Bars of Maryland and District of Columbia.  He was also eligible to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and U.S. Tax Court.  He was a member of the American Bar Association (Exempt Organizations Committee, Taxation Section).Buz was a guest lecturer of the Master Tax Program, Georgetown University Law Center, a member or the Exempt Organizations Division of IRS 1963-1989 and Division Director, 1986-1989.Buz met Veronica when she worked for the Chief of Exempt Organizations at the IRS, and they were married on April 15, 1967.  They lived in Hyattsville, Maryland for a few years, then Bladensburg until 1971.  They bought a house on Wimbleton Street in Kettering and raised 3 children - Ed, Elizabeth (Liz) and Theresa. Buz and Veronica were very involved in their community and developed several strong ties to families on the street. In 1993, they moved to Crofton Maryland, where they lived for 19 years.   In 2012, they moved to the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville. Buz absolutely loved the beach. When he was young he spent his summers in Rehoboth Beach, DE.  Then as he was older he would take trips to Wildwood, NJ with friends.  He went on vacation in either Rehoboth Beach, DE or Ocean City, MD every year with Veronica and their children.  It definitely was his happy place.Buz was extremely proud of and enjoyed spending time with his seven grandchildren - Justine, Eddie and Charlotte Coleman (Ed), Eric and Mark Hostetler (Elizabeth) and Alexis and Jack Clement (Theresa). He looked forward to Thanksgiving and Coleman Christmas each year when he had his entire family together.
