George (Pete) Petersen was born on January 3, 1928 in the Bronx, New York.Pete grew up in Northern New Jersey and graduated from Leone High School.Pete enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII in 1945 and served his country for 22 years.While in the U.S. Navy, he met his "Doll" Lois, in Reading, Massachusetts and married on November 15, 1952. He served with honors on the USS Meredith, USS Krause, USS Rush, and the USS Long Beach. He also served as Chief Fire Control Technician and instructor at the U.S Guided Missile School.After serving in the U.S. Navy, Pete and his family moved to Lanham, Maryland and Pete worked as an engineer for VITRO (Defense contractor) until retiring in 1992. Pete passed away on Monday September 5, 2016 surrounded by his wife and family. Pete is survived by his wife Lois of 64 years, his children, Debbie (Dave), David (Gayle), and Diane (Kevin), 5 grandchildren Dustin, Jami, Westley, Matthew, and Megan and 1 great grandson Cameron.Pete loved spending time with his family, spoiling his grandchildren, gardening, rooting for the Redskins, Senators and the Nationals, and surf fishing. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Fisher House in the name of George Petersen is appreciated.There are moments in life when you wish you could bring someone down from heaven.Spend the day with them just one more time, give them one more hug, kiss them goodbye or hear their voice again.
