Ron was born on April 16th, 1947. Ron was the son of the late Edward and Gertrude Durkin, and he is survived by his two sisters, Joyce and Linda. He grew up in Baltimore, MD, and attended St. Michaels Overlea Elementary. Graduated from Overlea High School in 1965. After Graduation, he found work for the Department of Defense at Fort Meade, MD. He enlisted in 1968 in the U.S. Army and served 4 years in the Philippines and Sinop, Turkey and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. Upon his return, he was re-employed at the Department of Defense at Fort Meade, where he met his wife, Deborah Moore. They were married on August 2nd 1980 at Glen Burnie Methodist Church. Together they traveled for work many places, Germany, England, traveled to the Bahamas with family and enjoyed Hawaii for their Honeymoon. During their free time they enjoyed going to the beach and going skiing. On August 13th, 1983, Ron and Deb started their family with the first son, Alex. They enjoyed 3 great years until they decided to expand their family further and had their second son, Adam. Their life was complete, until Adam brought them James, and then Alex and Amanda brought Eloise. We are so thrilled that he got to spend 6 wonderful years with his grandson James and 4 beautiful months with his granddaughter Eloise. Ron devoted his life to his country, through Army and Department of Defense services until the end. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. His memory will live on with all those who have known and loved him, and we will make sure his memory lives on with his grandchildren. Ron was a terrific father. Of the many things fathers get to enjoy and endure, we can always rely on the examples dad set. All the times he taught us what we needed to know to get to where we were today, we will continue to try our best to do the same for our kids. And whenever we toss a baseball, or watch a game, or go to the beach, we know dad will be there as a part of us. Ron and Deb were the love of each other's lives. How like him, it was, to wait until the morning of their 36th anniversary to leave us. August 2nd, 2016.Ron was always proud of his Irish heritage and he would like to leave you with the Old Irish Blessing: "May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand."
