Jean Mary Gormley, 85 a 49 year resident of Bowie, died July 24, 2016. She was born January 18, 1931 in New York City, New York the younger of 2 to Ruth and Henry Smith. She was an aspiring artist and fashion designer but was unable to pursue her passion due to a debilitating eye condition caused by rheumatic fever. Still, Jean managed an active life; an avid bowler and bingo player. Jean settled into a traditional role as housewife and mother and raised 5 children and numerous pets. Jean is survived by one daughter: Jean (Steve) Dellinger of Manassas Park, VA; four sons: Henry (Marybeth) Gormley of Crofton, MD, Francis Gormley of Bowie, MD, David of Deale, MD and Mark (Jennifer) of Gambrills, MD; eight grandchildren: Kristy, Erica, Melanie, Shannon, Ryan, David, Cameron and Colleen; three great grandchildren: Kaleb, David and Hannah; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, David Sr., and her sister Mary Wagner. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 3, 2015 from 10:30 to 11:30am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Dr., Crofton, MD, where a Mass of Christina Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am. Interment, Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. A repass will be held afterwards at Moni's Place in Crofton, MD.
