Noah and Justine later moved the family to California where he retired from the military after 20 years. A few years later, Noah and Justine relocated to New Bern, NC where he passed. Mama Justine stayed in New Bern and was active in the church and volunteered to serve as a grandparent at the local elementary school where her grandchildren went to school. After a number of years she went to live with her grandson, Kevin and daughter in law Cynthia in Bowie, MD. Soon after, she became a member of Cornerstone Church where she regularly attended Bible study, church services and other social events.
