Raymond David Hesson of Bowie, MD passed away peacefully as he was surrounded by family on May 24th 2016 in Baltimore, MD. Raymond is survived by his sons Raymond Jr, Benjamin (wife Diane), and Michael (wife Mary); grandchildren Zachary, Ryleigh, Lindsay, Anna, Michael Jr, Megan, and Madelyn; sister Irene. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Helen and the mother of his 3 sons Frances Shryock-Hesson. Raymond was a loving father, accomplished banjo player, skilled cartoonist, decorated US Government Employee (NASA, Navy, OPM), world traveler, and dedicated music teacher (guitar and banjo). Raymond is a graduate of The University of Maryland (1964); Played guitar with the String-a-longs, and had a Number 1 song “Wheels”(1963); Founding member of Foggy Bottom (performed for 25 years) and The Free State String Band; Formed band in the mid 90’s with his 3 sons called Pointer Ridge (named after the subdivision in Bowie, MD where they lived); Recipient of the NASA Exceptional Service Medal. Ray will best be remembered for his quick wit, ever present smile, vast knowledge of US History and world class banjo playing.A viewing is scheduled for Saturday, May 28, 2016 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, MD with a funeral service immediately following at 1:00 PM. A Committal Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 31st at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD.
