LOVEYANN T. CALLOWAY WAS BORN ON JUNE 7, 1936, IN DELMAR, DELAWARE TO GEORGE AND DORIS TRUITT WHO ARE BOTH DECEASED. SHE HAD ONE BROTHER ROGER L. TRUITT WHO IS ALSO DECEASED. SHE GRADUATED FROM DELMAR DELAWARE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1954. IN HIGH SCHOOL SHE PLAYED FIELD HOCKEY, BASKETBALL AND SOFTBALL AND WAS A MEMBER OF THE HONOR SOCIETY, GLEE CLUB AND A CHEER LEADER. SHE BELONGED TO THE SALISBURY CAMERA CLUB AND PARTICIPATED IN THE DELMARVA CHICKEN FESTIVAL WHERE SHE WAS CROWNED MISS CONGENIALITY OF 1954. SHE GRADUATED FROM STATE TEACHERS COLLEGE, SALISBURY, MARYLAND, CLASS OF 1958 AND BEGAN HER TEACHING CAREER IN LANGLEY PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, LANGLEY, MD. OTHER TEACHING POSITIONS WERE MADIES IVES ELEMENTARY, NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, HIGHBRIDGE ELEMENTARY AND MAGNOLIA ELEMENARY, BOTH IN MARYLAND. SHE RETIRED IN 1993, BUT CONTINUED TEACHING AS A SUSTITUTE AT THE HOWARD B. OWENS SCIENCE CENTER FOR 15 YEARS. TEACHING WAS ONE OF HER PASSIONS AND READING WAS ANOTHER. ON JUNE 14, 1958, SHE MARRIED JACK CALLOWAY, HER CHILDHOOD SWEETHEART. THEY HAD ONE SON ROGER RHETT CALLOWAY AND ONE GRAND DAUGHTER TAYLOR L. CALLOWAY WHO WAS THE APPLE OF HER EYE. SHE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY TWO STEP GRANDCHILDREN EMILY AND BENJAMIN WINDSOR. SHE LOVED THE BEACH AT OCEAN CITY WHERE SHE SPENT THE LAST 25 SUMMERS AND TAKING TRIPS WITH THE BOWIE SENIOR CENTER. SHE WAS ALWAYS READY FOR A TRIP. SHE LOVED PLAYING BINGO AND THE SLOT MACHINES, AND FOR 25 YEARS PLAYED VOLLEYBALL IN THE BOWIE INTERFAITH RECREATION COUNCIL LEAGUE. SHE SERVED THE COUNCIL AS ITS FIRST WOMAN’S PRESIDENT. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH SINCE ITS INCEPTION. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR; ADAH CHAPTER NO. 5 OF DELMAR; AMERICAN LEGION LADIES AUXILIARY, DISNEY-BELL POST 66 OF BOWIE; COBB ISLAND CITZENS ASSOCIATION; CHARTER MEMBER OF THE DELMAR HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION; PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD VETERNAS EMPLOYEE ASSOCIATION LADIES AUXILIARY SERVING AS ITS PRESIDENT FOR SEVERAL YEARS; AND VARIOUS PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS.
