COL Charles C. Otterstedt, Jr. U.S. Army (Ret.), died on 19 April 2016 at home in Bowie, MD, at the age of 82. He was born in Chester, NY on June 8, 1933. He proudly served 31 years in the United States Army in the Medical Service Corps. A Vietnam veteran, who was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Soldier's Medal as a Battalion Commander in the 25th Infantry Division, COL Otterstedt was respected by all for his personal leadership in the face of danger. Raised in Chester, New York he became the town's pride and joy, as an athlete. He was the captain of his baseball team at the University of Maine. He later married Ailene Elizabeth Clark from Goshen, New York. They had 2 sons, Charles and Mark; both who served in the Army. He was predeceased by his wife Ailene and son Mark. He is survived by his son Charles III; four grandchildren Charles IV, Katie, Megan and Matt; and great-grandchild Emerson. Family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 10-11am, with a funeral service at 11am. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery, to be scheduled at a later date.
