Elsie Huldah McQuillen

Elsie Huldah Hibbs McQuillen and her twin brother, Charles Herbert Hibbs, were born on September 2, 1926 in Leesburg, Virginia. Early in her childhood, she moved to the Vienna area of Fairfax County, where she was educated in the public school system. In 1944, she graduated from Fairfax High School. After attending Strayer College, she worked as a secretary for Swift and Company Law Department.  She and Edward L. Bartley were married in June of 1947. She stayed at home with their two sons, Kenneth L. Bartley (born 4/3/1948) and Donald E. Bartley (born 9/16/1951) until 1957 when she returned part-time to patent law. Then, in 1963, she studied trademark law, continuing her career researching trademarks and working in a patent law firm through 1980. After divorcing Edward L. Bartley in 1966, she married Norman McQuillen in August 1980. Together, they enjoyed traveling and boating until Norm’s death on June 5, 2005. Her first son, Kenneth L. Bartley, was killed in Vietnam on June 12, 1969. Huldah is survived by her son, Donald E. Bartley; grandson, Matthew A. Bartley; stepchildren, Cheryl Mart, Donna Guilbert, Robin Orr, Keith McQuillen, Brian McQuillen, Dale McQuillen, Colleen McQuillen and Blair McQuillen.  Throughout her life, Huldah enjoyed being active in church, local politics and community service. Family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 10-11:30am, with the funeral service at 11:30am. Interment, Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.
