?Peter Van Houten Wiest passed peacefully at Heart Homes in Odenton, MD on March 3, one month after his 80th birthday. He was born in Philadelphia on February 3rd, 1936 (which happened to be his mother’s 27th birthday). He is survived by his two sons, Nevin (Alice) and Greg (Peggy), his wife and soul mate of nearly 24 years~ Judy, and her children Jim (Cindy) and Sherie (Tony). Peter is also remembered and survived by the mother of his two sons, Nancy Wiest and many grandchildren: Ben (Kayla), Chris (Erin), Daniel, Ethan, Jake, Nick, Victoria, and Alexis Wiest; as well as Sarah, Brady, Jake, and Cooper Mazzei; Matt (Jaime), Cathy (Brian), Liz (Rohan), and Mary Thorpe; one great-granddaughter, Madison Wiest, along with seven other great-grandchildren. Pete graduated from Dickenson College in 1958 with a degree in Economics. He was a member of Kappa Sigma. He worked in the employee benefits field and eventually partnered to start his own company. Family was a primary focus in his life. He was a long time resident of Bowie, where he was active in coaching baseball, scouting, bridge club and in his church.In retirement, Pete and Judy moved to Williamsburg, VA and later to the Lancaster, PA area. He enjoyed quiet times at home and the Lionel trains of his childhood. Peter fought an eight-year long courageous battle with dementia. In 2015, he became a resident of Heart Homes. The entire family would like to thank the loving staff at Heart Homes for their wonderful care.Friends are invited to call at the Beall Funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, with the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Nevin Wiest will be officiating.
