?On the morning of February 14, 2016, Richard H. Metz died at his home in Bowie, MD. He was 69 years old. Richard was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1947 to Zachary and Margaret Metz and grew up on Long Island with his parents and two brothers. After moving to Maryland in 1962 Richard graduated from DuVal High School in 1964 and then attended Duke University where he earned a Bachelor''s degree in economics. After receiving his undergraduate degree Richard went to work for the U.S. Census Bureau where he worked through the 1970 Census. Richard then obtained a law degree from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University and on passing the bar became a member of the Georgia Bar. Richard briefly practiced law in Georgia. He then returned to Maryland and went to work as an associate at the law firm of Peterson, Engberg and Peterson, a Minneapolis law firm, in their Washington, D.C. office. Richard left the Peterson firm and went to work as a solo practitioner as a defense lawyer in Anne Arundel and Prince George''s counties. Richard loved to read and was an avid movie buff. He was also a huge sports fan of virtually all local sports teams. He was a loving brother and devoted uncle to his niece and nephew. Richard is survived by his brother, Andrew, sister-in-law Susanna, nephew Sam and niece Kathleen, all of Deale, MD. Some time in the near future at a time to be determined by his family, a memorial service will be held at the Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, MD. Richard will be interred in a private family ceremony.
