Joan Mae Little (Mema), 82 passed Friday, January 22, 2016 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was born on May 18, 1933 in Washington, DC, the daughter of Elton (Poppy) and (Mary) Loretta (Granny) Wiser of Riverdale, MD. On September 29, 1951, she was united in marriage to Theodore Warren Little; the couple lived in Norfolk, VA while Theodore served in the Navy. They settled in Hyattsville, MD while they raised their seven children. Joan worked at the pediatric medical practice of Dr. Jansa, West Lanham Hills, MD for the majority of her working career and enjoyed annual vacations with the family that took them throughout the nation, Canada and Mexico. Her favorite places were with the family at the beach and visiting lighthouses. The family’s most memorable moments with her are: the weekly family gatherings; family vacations to Myrtle Beach and Disney World; celebrating birthdays, graduations, and other life milestones; and welcoming new members to the family. She is survived by her husband Theodore W. Little; her seven Children Robin Sullivan (Pat), Vivian DeSantis, Warren Little, Beverly Dawes (the late Patrick), Timothy Little, Matthew Little (Krista), and Andrew Little (Christy); seventeen Grandchildren, Michele Jones (Scott), Patrick Sullivan(Kelly), Jennifer Sullivan, David Sullivan, Christopher DeSantis (Tricia), Charlene Bobel (Jon), Loretta Preston, Hope Threatt (Joe), Russell Dawes, Nicholas Dawes, Natalie Dawes, Timothy Little, Jr.(Jamie), Morgan Little, Virginia Little, Kurt Little, Andrew Little, Jr, and Madison Little; numerous Great Grandchildren; Brothers, Elton Wiser (the late Shirley), and Rodrick Wiser (Carol); Sister In-Laws, Wilda Mae Boothe (Ronald), the late Patricia Weston and (Leo), Dorothy Burum, and Jean Wright (Silveon); and numerous Nieces and Nephews. Visitation is on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 6:00pm-8:00pm and Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 10:30am-12:00pm. Funeral Service will be held at 12pm on January 30, 2016. All services will be held at Riverdale Baptist Church, 1177 Largo Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774. Interment will follow and be held at Riverdale Baptist Cemetery with a celebration of life to follow at the Carriage House.In lieu of flowers friends and family are asked to make contributions to support students pursuing a degree in the health care professions through the Joan Little Memorial Scholarship at Anne Arundel Community College. This scholarship is being established in recognition of Joan’s long career with a pediatric medical practice and her recent fights against cancer. These scholarships will help students and the families they will serve for generations to come.
