Joseph Erdeky

Joseph "Joe" Erdeky died peacefully at home on January 19, 2016 in Bowie, Maryland at the age of 75. Joe is survived by his wife, Susan Erdeky; children, Nerissa Schmitter of Westfield, MA, Cassidy Torgrimson of Elkridge, MD, and Callen Mackey of Arlington, VA; siblings, Sue Fisher of New Wilmington, PA and Ernie Erdeky of State College, PA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Gizella Erdeky. Joe was born on June 8, 1940 in Homestead, PA to Ernest and Gizella Erdeky. He graduated from Westminster College and Florida State University with a BS in mathematics and an MS in mathematics, respectively. After moving to Largo, Maryland, Joe began working for Prince George's Community College as a math professor. He married his wife Susan in 1987. His children remember him as a kind and loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Joe was accomplished at mathematics and enjoyed writing programs for TI-83 calculators. He was a witty individual who loved movies and who was passionate about sharing classic movies with his daughters. He was an active and dedicated member of the Mount Roger's Appalachian Trail Club and often volunteered during trail maintenance in Damascus, VA. A memorial is scheduled for 1:00 PM on January 31, 2016 at Hope Presbyterian Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joe's life.
