Frances Engle Litzel of Bowie, 88, passed away peacefully on January 11 following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Paul Litzel, and granddaughter Danielle Koran and is survived by her five children: Harry (Hamp) Howell, III (Jennifer), Bonnie Branham (Pete), Kathy Smither, Paul Howell and Patricia Ryan (Craig); nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A native of Oxford, Alabama, Mrs. Litzel graduated from Jacksonville (AL) State Teacher's College (now Jacksonville State University), where she majored in Music and English. After her graduation she began her career as a teacher in Talladega, Alabama. She moved to Bowie in 1967, taught music at Whitehall Elementary School and English at Benjamin Tasker Middle School in Bowie and retired from teaching in 1977. Mrs. Litzel was an avid bridge player and a long-time member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 1505 Crownsville Road, Crownsville, on February 6 at 11:00 a.m., followed by inurnment, and reception in the church Parish Hall.
