?Renée Bauge Baumann passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the age of 88. Born June 10, 1927 in New York City to Rene Bauge and Augustine LaChat Bauge, she was baptized Renée Emilienne. Growing up in Flushing, NY, with a renowned French chef father and Swiss homemaker mother, Renée was exposed to a variety of world and cultural influences from an early age. While attending Bayside High School, she demonstrated a talent for fashion design which she pursued at The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). While in school, Renée met Frank Baumann. They later reconnected through his mother Margaret while riding a NYC bus and Margaret was looking at pictures Frank had sent her after joining the Air Force. Soon after that encounter, Renée and Frank began dating. The young couple were married in June, 1949, and took up residence in Queens, NY, where their first son, Thomas, was born in 1950. Within a few years, Renée and Tom joined Frank on USAF assignments across the United States. In 1954, Renée gave birth to son Gary while Frank was stationed in Fort Worth, TX. In 1956-1957, Renée and sons moved back to New York as Frank headed overseas until returning in 1958. In 1959, six months after her husband reported to Misawa, Japan, Renée and their sons joined Frank. In 1960, their daughter Janine was born in Japan. Stateside by 1963, they moved into a new home in Bowie, MD. Less than a year later in 1964, the family transferred to Peshawar, Pakistan for Frank's final overseas assignment. By 1967, they returned home permanently. Renée saw all of her children graduate from Bowie Senior High. She was preceded in death by her brother Jacques Bauge and sister Georgette Bell, her husband Frank and son Gary. She is survived by son Thomas ( Kathleen Stacy ) Baumann, daughter Janine ( Joseph ) Maher, grandson Philip Maher, daughter-in-law Ann, granddaughter Elizabeth, granddaughter Christina ( Robert Eigenbrod ) Grant, and great-granddaughter Viola. Renée loved and appreciated a variety of music. In the 1960’s, she worked in the record department at McCrory’s Variety store in the Belair Shopping Center where she was fondly known as “The Record Lady.” More recently, Renée actively volunteered with The Friends of the Belair Estate and was also a member of the local VFW Ladies Auxiliary. After traveling much of her life, Renée spent her later years enjoying her home, her family, and her mementos. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2016, from 11am -1 pm at Beall Funeral Home, Bowie, MD. A private burial will take place in the spring at Arlington National Cemetery.
