Joseph Francis Golis, 93 Joseph “Vyto” Golis (Zalis), 93, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Charlotte Hall Veteran’s Home, Maryland, surrounded in love by his family.? Joseph was born and raised?in Lawrence, Massachusetts.? He volunteered during World War II with the United States Army Air Corps, in which he served with distinction as a member of the 37th?Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron, from 1942 to 1945.? After the War, Joseph moved to the Washington DC metropolitan area to raise a family of five children.? During this time, he devoted 35 years to the Washington Gas Light Company. ? Joseph will be remembered for his jovial spirit and loving, caring nature. He was a gentle soul and good role model for his children, who always found the good in the people he met and inspired others to do likewise.? Joseph found great joy in reconnecting with his family heritage and maintained a continuing personal connection with his Lithuanian relatives.? Vyto, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, was known to cut an occasional carpet and always had a place on his dance card and his heart for all. We look forward to dancing with you in the heavens, Dad. ? Joseph is preceded in death by his former wife, Sophie Abucewicz Golis. He is survived by: his children Stephan, Paul, Christine, Kenneth and Elizabeth; sister Elaine; grandchildren Kelly, Carrianne, Lauren, Valerie and Sophie;? and great grandchildren Nicole, Molly, William, Logan, Luke, Megan, Annabeth and Joshua. ? A Celebration of Life will be arranged for February 2016.
