Cleo spent the last thirty years of her life attending Crofton United Methodist Church, (CUMC). In 1997, at the age of 67, she was asked by her pastor, Chris Holmes, to join the first mission trip to Zimbabwe. This trip changed the trajectory of her life and sent her and her best friend Emily Frye on an adventure of a life time. The ladies fell in love with Zimbabwe and its people. They started an Orphan Trust, initiated micro businesses by bringing over sewing machines and teaching women to sew. They supported the local church and pastors, Mary and Remember Masamba, and sponsored their son Fortune to come to the US, earn a degree, and who still lives nearby. These are only a few of Cleo and Emily's accomplishments as the Zimbabwe Volunteers in Mission, (Zimvim). The family requests that donations be made to the Cleo McCoy Zimvim Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers. The fund can be accessed through the CUMC website at the link below.
