On July 21, 2015, Barry Mason Kellam passed away peacefully in his home in Severn, Maryland. He was born on December 17, 1956 in Portsmouth, VA, to Minnie (Hickman) Kellam and the Late Joseph V. Kellam. He is survived by his wife Lori (Wade) Kellam, his daughters Denise (Kellam) Deaver and her husband Ned, Stephanie (Kellam) Hayes and fiancé Albert Foulkes and their mother Lynn Kellam, his grandson Thomas Hayes, his stepson Brinton Moncrief and his stepdaughter Kristin (Moncrief) Fearing and her husband Ricardo. Barry started his career at Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a toolmaker. His dedication and skills allowed him to quickly rise through the ranks to become the Engineering Manager for Amphibious Warship Modernization efforts. His career continued to grow as he was selected for promotion to NAVSEA Headquarters at the Washington Navy Yard as the Modernization Planning Yard Manager for Amphibious Warships providing oversight of detailed engineering drawing development. Barry's support of US Navy Ships and fellow Civil Service peers was always excellent, appreciated and of the highest commitment levels. Barry took great pride in his "Service To The Fleet", from toolmaker to Senior Manager. Upon his successful retirement from Federal Service, Barry started a second career with QED Systems Inc. as their Senior Program Manager for Engineering Support in the Washington DC area. Although his private sector career was short, his impact was immediate, and his dedication and service will be missed by all who had the pleasure of working with him. Barry had a deep love for family and friends. He found great joy in spending time with his grandson, Thomas. Many who know Thomas would say he is a mini version of his granddaddy. In Barry's spare time, he enjoyed fishing, traveling, and woodworking. He was always planning his next project as he was finishing his last. His greatest joy was knowing Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Crofton, MD. He and Lori recently found healing through a Christ-Centered 12-step program called "Celebrate Recovery". Barry had already begun ministering to others who were struggling with life's hurts, hang-ups and habits. Family and friends will celebrate Barry's life at First Baptist Church of Crofton, 1690 Crofton Parkway, Crofton, MD 21114 with a visitation on Thursday, July 23rd at 6pm followed by a service at 7pm. A visitation will also be held at Sturtevant Funeral Home, 5201 Portsmouth Blvd, Portsmouth, VA 23701 on Sunday, July 26th from 4pm to 6pm; followed by internment services at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Road, Suffolk, VA 23435, on Monday, July 27th at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, Barry's family suggests gifts in Barry's memory to either Helping Up Mission, 1029 E.
