John P. Sullivan

February 24, 1964 — July 7, 2015

John Patrick Sullivan (Sully) went home to be with his Lord on the morning of July 7, 2015 at the Mandrin Inpatient Care Center in Harwood, Maryland. John fought a courageous battle with a rare cancer called soft tissue sarcoma for over 5 years. He was born February 24, 1964 in Washington, DC to Wanda and Raymond Sullivan. He is survived by his mother Wanda, loving wife Susan, brother Tom, sister Nancy, daughters Leslie and Colleen and son Shayne, and his grandchildren Alyssa and Ayden. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Mike whom John loved with all his heart. John grew up in Landover Hills, Maryland before moving to Crofton in 1979 and graduating from Arundel High School. He got a degree in Business from the University of Maryland. John met his wife Susan at the Capital Center where she was working. John, who was brilliant with numbers, started out in the construction business and ended up with a very successful career in mortgage banking. He was well respected in the industry and developed close and lasting ties with his associates and employees. John was a devoted family man and loved bragging on and telling stories about his family members. He was a sports junkie with a particular fondness for the Redskins. John was a people person with friends too numerous to count and loved being out and about or in a crowd. He loved to laugh and brought joy wherever he went. He enjoyed debating and healthy conversations. His wise counsel was often sought after whether it was financial, legal, real estate advice, marriage/relationship counseling, or pastoral help. He had a heart for hurting people and loved helping in any way he could. During his battle with cancer he started chasing after Jesus with all of his might. He had an incredibly close relationship with the Lord and loved to share with all who would listen. He was always transparent about his many questions and his honest discussions with Jesus. John's strong faith allowed him to walk through the last five years of multiple chemo, radiation, and clinical trials at NIH and John Hopkins with an incredible joy and grace. Everyone who witnessed this was amazed and humbled watching him deal with setback after setback. He never complained, whined, or asked why me. He impacted many lives and left a legacy that will be hard to live up to. Our hearts are broken and he will be sorely missed but we are excited that he is standing, whole, healthy, pain free, and joyous before the face of Jesus. We cannot wait to meet up with him when our time comes. See Service Schedule link above for service and viewing information and times.
