Robert Everett Doffermyre

September 12, 1951 — June 24, 2015

Robert Everett Doffermyre was brought back home to that God who gave him life on the morning of June 24, 2015 after a tough battle with cancer. He was born on September 12, 1951 in Washington, DC to Elizabeth and Richard Doffermyre. He is survived by his mother Elizabeth, his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Doffermyre, his sister Sharon, his children Bobby, Danny, Natalie, Jamie, and Chrissy, and his 13 grandchildren Marie, Nicholas, Rachel, Maddie, Christian, Josh, Caroline, Cassidy, Will, John, Annaliese, Kate, and Sydney. Robert grew up in Palmer Park and later lived in Seabrook, MD. He graduated from Duvall High School in 1969. He married his High School sweetheart Mary Hayden and they settled down in Davidsonville, MD and later in Gambrills, MD. Robert served as the Owner and CEO of Federal Fire Protection for 40 years. He started Federal Fire Protection from the basement of his home in Davidsonville, MD. Federal Fire Protection became incorporated in June of 1975. He was honest in his business dealings and was greatly respected among his fellow contractors as someone of integrity who honored his word. He had a huge impact on the lives of his employees who later commented that there isn't one employee he didn't help in some way. His employees relied on him for advice and he was a great mentor to those who worked with him. Robert was devoted to his community. He served as the Football Commissioner of the Crofton Football program for several years and had a huge impact on the kids he helped coach. He taught them life lessons to be accountable, to work hard, and to believe in themselves. He opened his home as a sponsor to Naval Academy football players and other midshipmen who found a second father in Robert and loved coming to his home. Robert had strong faith in God. He loved going to church as a child and attended several local churches growing up. He became a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1974. He served faithfully as a youth leader, a Sunday School teacher, and a youth basketball coach and loved teaching and working with the youth of the church. His great faith in Heavenly Father and in his Son Jesus Christ got him through the many challenges which he faced in life including his latest trial with cancer. Robert was a devoted husband and father. He loved his children and worked hard to give them every opportunity in life. He spent countless hours working with his children in sports activities. Having a happy family was his top priority. He sacrificed and worked hard to take care of his family and took his family on many vacations to the beach and on ski trips. He loved going to Ocean City with his family. He was always there for his children to provide a listening ear and wise counsel. Robert loved to play the drums and encouraged his children to get involved with music. He loved sports including skiing, football, basketball, and golf. He loved boating and being on the water. He would often take his children fishing on the Chesapeake bay or just enjoy cruising around the bay. Robert truly loved people. He was the life of the party. He loved good debates and lively conversations. Robert was definitely one of a kind and will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Until we meet again Robert.
