William R. Solomon

William "Bill" Solomon was born on July 24, 1928, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania to John and Anna Nader Solomon. He graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1946. He began dating his lifelong sweetheart, Mary Ditka of Carnegie, Pennsylvania in high school. They were married on July 2, 1950. Bill and Mary's first child, Carole "Gus" Ann was born to them in Sewickly, Pennsylvania, September 9, 1952. Stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC , Bill was just able to get to the hospital in time to meet his newborn daughter. They resided in Linmar Plan of Aliquippa, PA with Carole for several years until later moving to Wickham Village in Hopewell Township. On December 28, 1956, Patricia "Patty" Marie was born to Bill and Mary. Then, on November 16, 1959, their third daughter, Adrienne "Adie" Mary was born to them in Aliquippa. Bill began his Postal Service career at the age of 17 in the Aliquippa Post Office. He was drafted into the US Army in September 4, 1946 and honorably discharged due to familial commitments at the rank of Private on December 17, 1946. He then was drafted again into the US Marines in December 20, 1951 and served in Vieques Island, Puerto Rico. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal on December 4, 1953. After his discharge from the Marines, he reentered employment with U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. He delivered mail for many years. Billadvanced into his Postal Inspection career as a Superintendent of Delivery, Collection and Stations in Cumberland, MD in June, 1965, until transferred to the Washington, DC area. He and his family resided in Bowie, MD from 1970 to the present. He becamea Postal Inspector inMarch, 1973and was assigned to theWashington Divisionwhere he workedin Miscellaneous, External Crimes, and Audit assignments until he retired in February 3, 1985. Bill lived a full life and was known for his love for woodworking and the legacy of toys, church items, furniture and clocks that he made. He spent much of his retirement working in his home workshop, playing golf with friends, and visiting his grandchildren. His contribution to their lives is evident in the great citizens and professionals they have all become. Bill is survived by his wife,Mary, and daughters Gus Grinstead, Patty Albert, and AdieJohnson as well as seven grandchildren, Cpt. Dustin Albert, MD US Army, Matt Johnson,MD, Nick Grinstead, Kenny Johnson, Lindsay Grinstead, Catherine Johnson, and Samantha Albert, and two great-grandchildren, Soren Johnson and Brooks Albert. His sisters, Wilma Dobo and Sara Kolarchik, reside in Aliquippa, PA.
