He was born in Havre, Montana, on September 1, 1923. In 1931 his parents, younger brother and Wallace resettled in Seattle, Washington. Following graduation from elementary school in 1937, he attended high school where he graduated with honors in 1941. He joined the U.S. Navy shortly after WW II broke out, and, among other things served aboard ship in the Pacific. Following WW II, he attended the University of Washington, in Seattle. He graduated with honors (cum laude) with a B.A. degree in 1950. Shortly thereafter, he was recalled to active duty with the Navy and served aboard ship during the Korean War (1950-52) As for his post-graduate career, he studied and taught German at the University of Washington during the period 1952-53. He then studied and taught German at the University of California in Berkeley, California where he earned an M.A. degree in German language, German literature and philology (1953-55). He then accepted employment with NSA (National Security Agency) and worked there until he retired in 1983. In 1956 he met the love of his life and future wife, Dorothea. They were happily married for 58 years. He served the U.S. government for 31 years, many years of which were spent in Paris, Berlin, Stuttgart, and Munich. After retirement he and his wife lived in Munich, Germany from 1983 until 1992, at which time they returned to the USA. They have resided in Crofton, Maryland since that time. Special Achievement: He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for study at the University of Bonn, Germany during the period 1958 to 1959.
