Russell W. Smith Jr., 74, of Davidsonville, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his home on Sunday, February 15, 2015. Born in Salisbury, MD on March 29,1940, Russ was the son of Evelyn and Russell Smith. Russ was a graduate of Wicomico High School, Class of 1958, and the University of Maryland. Russ had a successful business career in the accounting and financial field working as a Comptroller and Vice President in the dairy and coffee industry. He was a highly successful entrepreneur having started and sold several businesses during his career. Russ was an active member of the Davidsonville United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer for several years. He was also president and treasurer of the Davidsonville Ruritan Club. Prior to his service in the Ruritan, Russ was president and treasurer of the Crofton Kiwanis Club. His generosity was known to all who knew him. He was happiest when talking about the proud accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He had an extensive collection of sweatshirts representing the colleges and universities they attend. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, charitable events, and several dinner and breakfast clubs. If he had any spare time, he enjoyed sitting on his back porch at Chesway Hill. Russ is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jean Lineberry Smith, his son Stephen Smith, his daughters Linda Smith Cochran (Robert) and Shannon Smith Garden (Richard) and ten grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Smith (Shirley) and his sister, Beverly Pope (Vaughn). Family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rt.3 South), Bowie, MD on Friday, February 20, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. A funeral service will be held at Davidsonville United Methodist Church, 819 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11am, followed by interment in Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Davidsonville United Methodist Church, the Hospice of the Chesapeake, or the Salvation Army in Annapolis.
