Daniel C. Foster

Daniel Cleveland Foster was born on September 9, 1936 in Amelia County, Virginia as 10th of 11 children to the late Henry E. Foster and Lillian S. Foster. He attended Chester Grove Baptist Church where he remained a member in good standing. He continued services in Christ at Village Baptist Church in Bowie. He attended Moven Elementary School and Russell Grove High School. He served as salutatorian for his graduating class. He then attended Virginia Union University and received his B.S. Degree in Mathematics and graduated Summa Cum Laude. At Virginia Union, he was inducted into the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. After graduation, he began working for the U. S. Navy in Washington, DC and began graduate work at George Washington University. He worked his way to one of the top civilian senior executive positions and traveled extensively to Hawaii, Korea, Japan and many other countries before retiring after 18 years. He then opened his business and served as a Computer Engineering Consultant for about 10 years. He spent the last twenty years of his life as a volunteer math and reading tutor for his grandchildren and countless other children and adults. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. He was most proud of this accomplishment. A family man in every sense; his immediate family, his sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews all held an extraordinarily special place in his heart. He had a kind and generous Christian spirit that was always present through his everyday words and actions. He was an avid golfer and Redskins season ticket holder since 1960. In addition, he played baseball and basketball, and was a true sports enthusiast. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Celia J. Foster, 3 children; Derrick V. Foster (Kimberly), Renée A. Foster-St. Paul (Carlyle), and Penny L. Foster-Shiver (Sanders); six grandchildren, Taylor R. Shiver, Sydney C. Shiver, Lacey D. Foster, Nicklaus J. Foster, Gabrielle D. St. Paul and Alexandra L. St. Paul, 10 brothers and sisters; Clarence A. Foster*, Alice L. Lipscomb, Gertrude F. Lewis, Henry A. Foster, James E. Foster*, Marie F. Bingham, Bettie F. Barley, Vernell F. Thomas, McKinley Foster*, Evelyn F. Solomon; and countless nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. *Deceased
